Just couple of days after the destructive earthquake and tsunami in Japan there was a news report from NASA which got well media coverage as it could bring the curiosity of the masses. NASA shared their after quake scientific calculation which is worthless in nature and socially irresponsible as still hundreds were struggling to survive in debris and destroyed houses. It was reported that the quake resulted in shortening of Earth day and also shift of its axis. Report also mentioned “but don’t worry—you won’t notice the difference”, if not to be worried then why to dilute people’s mind with useless information.

It stated that result was achieved through applying a complex model to perform a preliminary theoretical calculation of how the Japan quake affected Earth’s rotation. And estimations suggested that it resulted in shortening the length of the day by about 1.8 microseconds (a microsecond is one millionth of a second) and should have shifted the position of Earth’s figure axis (the axis about which Earth’s mass is balanced) by about 17 centimeters (6.5 inches), towards 133 degrees east longitude. If to analyze the numbers it is really not to be worried, the 1.8 microseconds which is one millionth of a second is really small number and valueless even to be mentioned.

Earth in its thousands of years has witnessed and withstood such catastrophic natural disaster which resulted in elimination of nations and civilizations, cities remained under water, and even ending the period of Dinosaurs; which brought real changes in Earth’s environment. Report also mentions “Earth’s rotation changes all the time as a result of not only earthquakes, but also the much larger effects of changes in atmospheric winds and oceanic currents” which is very much obvious and makes this report to be misleading as well, as people generally judge only through heading of the news without much analyses.

The question comes, when the laboratories are able to measure the microsecond changes in Earth behavior why similar technologies are not bringing ample calculation to save lives of people? As meteorology is able to predict the rain through direction of clouds, it is clear that even the quake signals its occurrence. Unfortunately seismology had failed once more in predicting this ruinous quake that ended not only livelihood of people as well nuclear crisis. And even the tsunami walls in coastal areas were not adequate to prevent the cause. But the quake engineering that is applied in building of structures and houses well stood against this magnitude require applause to Japanese civil engineering.

The US military mission Odyssey Dawn was launched early in the morning of the same day along with a number of other military operations carried out by countries like France, Britain, Canada, Italy and even some Arab nations. On March 17 Gaddafi’s, son Saif al-Islam, claimed that in 48 hours Libya’s unrest would be over as they are reaching the final stage of their operation. And Libya, too, declared a cease-fire on March 19 and is eager to return to normality, and even asked nations and agencies to send teams to study the situation. So, why start another crisis when it is about to end?

It was described as a “no-fly zone” mission, which turned out to be a declaration of war against Libya. It gave the impression that the “no-fly zone” resolution would lead the mission to hit warplanes if they to carried out an airstrike, but not attacking Gaddafi forces directly. The go-ahead was given after the decision made in a special meeting in Paris, and some nations that opposed foreign military intervention from the beginning abstained from the decision-making process. It was after the same day that Gaddafi’s son attacked French President Nicolas Sarkozy and claimed that Sarkozy’s election campaign was financed by Libya and that they were going to reveal details of the transaction soon. France happens to be the most interested stakeholder in this so called “no-fly zone” mission, being the first nation to carry out its operation against Gaddafi forces.

It is difficult to judge Gaddafi’s personality, but it is clear that there are large numbers of people in Libya who are loyal to him. Otherwise he wouldn’t be able to push rebels back and recapture cities and oil reserves. In our time we should learn empathy and how to listen to all sides by trying to leave behind our prejudice for some time. During Gaddafi’s interview with the BBC, he criticized the West and the UN for not sending fact-finding teams and for judging based on biased reports. He also stated that people love him and that they are ready to die for him, which seems to be a very strong claim. What kind of criteria is there for one to be able to judge one country as being totalitarian? Among this criteria are factors such as: not many foreign citizens in the country, not much foreign investment, a ruler that is isolated from the people, a ruler who does not interact with the media and, especially, to open questions. These do not seem to be the case in Libya. Libya, whose name itself is derived from word “tribesmen,” consists of various tribes and started as the Libyan Jamahiriya, which literally means a “state of the masses.”

Turkey, China, Russia and Germany are strongholds advocating a peaceful transition by strongly opposing foreign military intervention. The case of Libya seems to be different from that of Tunisia and Egypt, though Libya geographically lies between these two countries. A total of 1 million people marched to Tahrir Square in Cairo, demanding democracy and peace in a very democratic and peaceful manner, which call for praise. And even the military didn’t open fire on unarmed people, out of a national consciousness. As uprisings still continuing in many more countries in Middle East we should judge and analyze each country separately based on local perspectives. The West should stop generalizing when it comes to the Middle East and they shouldn’t forget that each nation possesses its own heritage. Our actions should be pluralistic in approach, giving equal weight to all parties and taking into account accurate and well-informed insight on each nation so that we can understand what is right.

I love reading newspaper in the mornings, especially the first page where you get most important local to global issues. But for past one week our newspaper is coming with huge ad in its first and second pages; one construction company with its offer for home buyers. Today I couldn’t withstand this irritation and tore off the first leaf of the paper, and as the mood gone I went through fast and kept paper aside. But Sunday was special day when I could lay and read and analyze carefully. Why enterprises do not think of bringing promotion campaigns where both people and company gets benefited?

Today I saw my friends watching cricket match between India and West Indies, I also set besides them to witness how the organizers handling advertisement. As these days I got this sickness of ad-syndrome and thought of to have a look. Now days World Cricket Cup is going on and it is hosted by India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and most of the matches held in India. And when India plays it’s the most expensive ads of the game as more people watch and surprisingly I found out that many India matches played on Sunday.

I observed that during every chance of interval when players bringing ball, preparation, or change of player, the TV channel busts with ad, and it is like half of the game is with advertisement. Not only that, even when player is bowling the screen squeezed to top-right corner through availing empty space in left and down and not surprising again ‘ads’. It is also so annoying finding big ads being laid even in the ground, which you can’t miss at all. Even the wickets and bats are not spared from advertisement as these small particles of the cricket are important as they keep getting caught by photography and video. Oh I was massed with ads in my 15 minutes cricket experience and I left.

Beside of these there are useless and disturbing SMS ads that I get every day. And the ad hording in the city, oh that is a big stuff; I try to not look around by trying to avoid ad bombardment. Today we find advertisement to be so widespread without government intervention and much regulation. If you look carefully all these enterprises that give these big advertisements are ‘Public Companies’, which means they are using public money in these promotion campaigns. And idea behind seems to be not increasing sales but positioning in people’s mind that this particular company is doing fine business.

Hey did I tell ‘fine business’, look ahead some of these enterprises are in huge debt, some are in risk of bankruptcy and some are even in trouble. But by pumping ads, people get addicted to keep investing on these brand holders. As they get fresh cash with sale of new shares, and it is new avenue of bringing new promotions. So it is the matter of bringing people’s attention to particular brands by various means as ads, big deals, some particular news about company, etc. By enabling their brand to be positioned the small and medium enterprises get though job entering to market as an alternative option besides well advertised brands.

As I was upset to this matter, one good news-report that I have read from Today’s Zaman made me happy. To celebrate its 50th anniversary a biscuit company brought a snow to the city which has not seen snow fall for past 30 years. It was not joy only for children and but elders as well for those who happened to be central square of Mersin city, Turkey. It was surprise for many people to play with snow first time in their life. Company managed this endeavor with its volunteers by bringing snow from mountains and spraying over the square with the use of special machine. The company in its news report stated that “aim is to surprise and make people happy”.

Every day I receive in average seven advertisements and promotion campaign SMSs by various companies, service provider and even real estate agents who promise good deals. As I get happy hearing the ringtone of SMS delivery, the mood changes 180’ degree when I find out that it as an advertisement. Sometime it comes to my mind to start petition to complain about SMS ads. It is so irritating when you get these ads while you are chatting with friends. Some ads ask me to buy stuff and get discount from their shop where I have never been. And I even asked to admit my children to school while I am not married yet. Sometime I get SMS ads addressed by my name, and many times with wrong spelling, and start thinking that who might have saved my name wrong in this way.

When SMS comes you expect that some of your friends are sending greetings to you, telling “Hello”, and enquiring about you. Sometime you simply expect may be someone sent “I love you”, lol, hey I am joking. Anyway it is good to get SMSs from friends and being in touch with them through this mean. And even better when you are uninterrupted and undiluted with useless ads. Hey, you may be asking for yourself what my SMS ad experience to do with Japan and even with tsunami. What I want to share is, for past few days I am trying to find out if there were SMS alert about tsunami after earthquake in Japan. It feels very pity when this simple SMS system is not used by crisis management agencies for saving lives during natural disaster.

Today death toll started to be discussed over 10,000 lives in Japan. Recently I saw a video footage of tsunami where people are leisurely going in car while tsunami entering the city, I could feel that the people were not told about possibility of tsunami. The epicenter of earthquake is 128 kilometers away from Sendai city, and I tried to find out and also calculate how many minutes it could take for tsunami to reach the Sendai. I have met with my friend in Japanese studies to enquire and I was told that it was 9 minutes which was almost same with my calculation. And same time it probably took more than 30 minutes for tsunami reaching corners of Japan.

Today we believe that the satellites in cosmos can identify the brand of the watch that we wear, and it is obvious that it was clearly known by agencies the details of tsunami. So I ask myself was it so difficult mobilizing SMS alert to people asking them to stay away from coastal areas. I don’t know may be SMS were sent, but as I am trying to find out there was no such warning. And I do remember that there was not any SMS alert during tsunami that hit India in 2005, though it came from as far as Indonesia. Even my friend lucky stayed alive in 2005 as he didn’t go for morning walking at beach, it is not SMS alert that saved his life but the laziness that morning.

God created human being with capability of forgetting things, which is great human attribute rather probably we wouldn’t be able to even withstand the tensions that we get in one day. Life becomes more beautiful and meaningful as we keep forgetting bad experiences and ill thoughts. And same way people are also liable of forgetting basic matter such as arrival of tsunami after earthquake. The simple SMS alert after the earthquake could be potential tool saving many lives. It doesn’t has to send all mobile holders, the system automatically can synchronies and send SMSs to people located near to coastline without giving panic to entire nation.

Indian Railways is the global leader among enterprises in terms of number of people that it employs, which is estimated around 1 million. And it plays important role in India’s economic, social, cultural and demographic policy making. Well connectivity enables everyone to reach even remote corners of nation. Taking a long journey in railways is a good experience who would like to taste India.

Railways continued to cater people of all profile till beginning of 2000. Change to airways especially occurred among IT professional and businessmen who understand concept of ‘time is money’. Aeronautics industry emerged during this time by bringing new service providers. And flying with plane was out of ordinary as few could offer and also few people could bring change in self attitude by shifting transport.

Taking flight was special as you could experience lavishness, hospitality by beautiful all time smiling hostesses and on board meal. Planes generally would be new, and gave feeling as if flying in space shuttle. Making booking through online payment, even to be able to get your e-ticket through your email was art of technology that couldn’t be exchanged with long queue at rail ticket booking counters. Except old and overcrowded airport you could feel yourself as a welcome guest.

This trend did not continue for long, budget airlines that offered economic flight compensated service in many aspects. You have to buy snacks at plane if you would like to have a treat; you get doubts if you would be charged even if you request for water. Cost cutting measures could be visible in many features even in dress-code of hostesses which is not appropriate attitude to this industry to compensate so much.

Lately on my way to airport in tension as I was in risk to be late, I received message to my mobile which read 1 hour delay of flight. As I felt relaxed and told taxi driver to be slow, I couldn’t stop myself to appraise frequently delayed budget airlines’ at that moment as it enable late comers as me to catch the flight. Two hours journey to Delhi is not less time, if you add delays it’s quite some time, and comfortable flight is what is desired. As I entered the airplane I felt myself being in sauna, as the plane air-conditioner was not working in its preferred level, probably that too was part of cost cutting. I was surprised to see only one woman and rest men hostesses, the idea came to me that probably it is costly letting women work at night flights as dropping them could be more expensive than men as men could go by their own means. Experiencing all these I did not complain of my uncomfortable chair which is odd for airplane, I simply changed my sit. Luckily my return ticket was with well received airlines as I traveled with our director.

The Saturday, 22nd January was a memorable evening for many who attended the Turkish Cultural Day at historical Chowmahalla Palace. The palace was meaningful landmark to host this Turkish program as two princesses from Turkey Princess Durru Shehvar and Princess Niloufer lived just here. Event was organized by Chowmahalla Palace and Indialogue Foundation an Indo-Turkish NGO that works for intercultural and international Dialogue and Peace. The event was witness to guests from different walks of life; academicians, religious leaders, bureaucrats, politicians, businessmen, students, social activist, journalists, government employees and a good number of foreigners.

The participation of Prince Muffakham Jah and Princess Esin gave a color to the occasion and brought joy to both guests and organizers. The last Nizam of Hyderabad the Mir Osman Ali Khan had two sons, and eldest son, Azam Jah, was married to Durru Shehvar, daughter of Abdul Mejid II (the last Ottoman Caliph), and the second son Moazzam Jah married Princess Niloufer, a princess of the Ottoman Empire. Azam Jah and Durru Shehvar also had two sons Prince Muffakham Jah and Prince Mukarram Jah. And tradition continued with marriage of both princes with two Turkish ladies; Prince Mukarram Jah with Prince Esra and Prince Muffakham Jah with Princess Esin.

First part of event which is a Cultural Fair started at 17:00 included Turkish Cuisine, Cookies, Pastries, Appetizers, Turkish coffee and tea, Art, Dowries, Handicraft, Ebru Art, Heritage, Classical Music, Turkey’s Tourism Destinations, Information about Sponsors, etc. People went around the fair till the second part of program which is Music Concert that started at 19:45.

The Turkish delights and appetizers were prepared by Turkish ladies and students in Hyderabad was the hit and appreciated so much that no item left till the end of the event. Even Mr. Cetin Akkaya who was the speaker at concert didn’t hesitate telling that it was his partaking as looking after children while his wife was cooking for fair. An authentic Turkish coffee prepared and served in hand made porcelain just besides the fountain was a true royal flavor.

Handicrafts were not only for display but also were ready to be sold and packed. The Ebru a water marbling by Mr. Osman also brought curiosity; his sincere affords bringing art at water was eye catch by TV channels and he was also kind to gift his paintings. A tourism destination corner that exhibited ten important places of Turkey in picture was learning experience. There were also stalls where ladies displayed dowries (bride gifts) and crockery, which also served as dialogue corner for Turkish and Indian ladies.

The Music Concert started with Saz performance by Mr. Oguz and Mr. Burhan. And continued with folk dance by school children in Turkish traditional attire and beautiful background of palace chandeliers complimented each other. The Zuhurat Group performed Sufi Music with instrument Ney, Ud and Bendir and they also song Turkish Ghazal. The Sema performance by Whirling Dervishes was out of ordinary as it could radiate spiritual realm and was full of excitement as many could witness it first time. The performers could whirl between two palace pillars for dozen minutes without going astray from their initial positions.

Between the performances special guests were honored with Turkish handicraft to Indian dignities and Indian handmade prayer rugs were gifted to Turkish dignities. Princess Esin during her welcome at stage expressed that she is filling different in the occasion, and was reminded about her native Turkey which she stays away for 48 years. Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi, Member of Parliament (representing Hyderabad), Guest of Honor of the event and Mr. Kishan Rao, Director of Chowmahalla Palace appreciated the memorable gifts. The main sponsor of the event Mr. Selim Ozturk, General Manager (West & South India) of Turkish Airlines and associate sponsors Mr. Mir Nasir Ali Khan, Managing Director of MAK Projects and Mr. Talip, General Manager of Hidromas all were happy extending their support for this grandiose event and they also expressed their keen in collaboration for future events.

I found that I am not only one to voice “Please don’t upload to Facebook” after photo section. One of the tricky staff in Facebook is that to be visible when you are tagged by someone, and entire friends watch these photos that you don’t want to be seen. Many may not know that in privacy settings there is command to disallow and your tagged photos will be invisible to your friends. It is unfortunate that even if you disallow, it can be seen by common friends between you and the friend who has uploaded the photo.

There may be number of reasons that you don’t want a picture of yours to be seen by friends circle, it could be you didn’t come well in photo, or simply a photo that’s moment disregards actuality and may lead misunderstanding. May be people don’t want more headache by being commented by people whom they don’t know. Whatever the reason could be it is best if people appreciate someone’s privacy and value rights.

Some people don’t have Facebook account in a fear to be hooked and his privacy to be jeopardized. But I have come to conclusion that to keep privacy in secure is to be active user by monitoring staff about you and keep Facebook account in best private level and in any case someone uploads photo that you don’t want to be publicized simply ask friend to remove from Facebook.

When I visited my hometown of Jalal-Abad in January 2009, after having spent two years abroad, I was positively astonished at not being able to distinguish Kyrgyz and Uzbek people from each other for the first few days, only language could provide a hint as to which ethnicity they belonged.

I was born and lived in this city for almost two decades and knew about its diversity. The ethnic diversity of Jalal-Abad used to make me happy, as it enriched the city’s culture and created a mosaic of different traditions, cuisines, lifestyles, etc. Kyrgyz and Uzbek people speak in their own mother tongues but people understand each other without any difficulty, there is no discrimination based on the use of any language, and, in fact, there is only a very minor difference between these two Turkic languages. However, unless a mechanism for integration is carefully implemented, even minor differences can lead to ethnic polarization, the rise of stereotypes of the “Other” and, in time, prejudice.

Many people admit that there is an unreasonable hatred among the common people for other nationalities and ethnicities in Central Asia, and even dislike among people of different regions even if they belong to the same ethnicity. Stereotypes held by Kyrgyz people from the south and the north, which are divided by high mountains, of each other were in time eliminated as people migrated to the capital city, Bishkek, which provided an opportunity for closer interaction. During the Soviet era, graduates of universities and vocational institutions were assigned to work in the region where they came from; this simple system prevented people from interacting. In those times, all organizations were run by the state and the people didn’t have much personal liberty, which led to a monotonous lifestyle that hindered them from learning about each other and prevented awareness of the outside world.

Kyrgyzstan, which gained independence in 1991, is a small mountainous country without oil resources. In the early 1990s Kyrgyzstan’s first president, Askar Akayev, and national leaders of the time initiated a campaign under the slogan “Kyrgyzstan is our common home” with the intention of including all ethnic minorities in all social, economic, political and educational sectors, but this initiative ran out of steam due to ongoing economic issues and political instability. Thirty-one percent of Kyrgyzstan’s 5.3 million citizens are from ethnic minorities totaling 80 different ethnic groups. Linguistically and ethnically segregated minority schools, where Kyrgyz and other minority students study in different schools or at least in separate classes, are also a driving force behind ethnic polarization.

On the morning of June 11 the news that ethnic clashes had broken out in Osh and later spread to Jalal-Abad shocked the entire world. Initially, the UN announced that they appeared to be orchestrated, and provided as an example shootings that had begun simultaneously in five different locations in Osh. Later, observers started to report that a group wearing ski masks was shooting both Kyrgyz and Uzbek people with sniper rifles, and it was clearly understood that their sole aim was to create mayhem and spread violence. The Uzbek community, which makes up 14.5 percent of the total population, mainly lives in the south of Kyrgyzstan, especially near the border with Uzbekistan. In addition, the lack of people interacting, especially in these two cities where Uzbek and Kyrgyz neighborhoods are segregated, has also given way to polarization, which was noticeable as mainly mono-ethnic neighborhoods were devastated.

There are also hundreds of villages and neighborhoods where Uzbek and Kyrgyz people live side by side, and there are many stories of Kyrgyz residents hiding their Uzbek neighbors in their homes, Uzbeks protecting their Kyrgyz neighbors in the same way and joint efforts to prevent acts of provocation. Ozgon, which is located between Jalal-Abad and Osh, is another city where Uzbek and Kyrgyz people live together in large numbers and could have been similarly affected by ethnic unrest. On the first day of unrest in Osh, the Ozgon city administration held a meeting with city leaders and took steps towards preventing possible unrest. The city administration, along with community and religious leaders, went door to door urging people to remain calm and not to fall into the trap of provocateurs, and stability was preserved because of these measures. The unrest took on its destructive form because of various rumors that easily instilled feelings of enmity, which today appear very suspicious and seem to have been created by provocateurs in order to cause tension.

I discussed this heart-breaking incident with my Uzbek friends from high school face to face. We were all graduates of Jalal-Abad Kyrgyz Turkish High School, an educational establishment run by the Sebat Education Foundation founded by Turkish educators and philanthropists just after Kyrgyzstan’s independence. Many government officials praise Sebat’s schools for their success, and at the same time admit that they were initially skeptical and worried about possible quarrels among students, as the school dormitories accommodated students from many different ethnicities and religions. This school was untouched by unrest, even thought it housed both Uzbek and Kyrgyz students and students from many other ethnic backgrounds. I learned that the Turkish teachers did not leave the city despite the possible danger during civil unrest and later assisted in distributing the aid materials that arrived from Turkey and Bishkek. I was touched by the courage the school’s teachers showed in protecting the residential houses next to school. The People’s Friendship University across from the school sustained heavy damage when clashes erupted in Jalal-Abad. This private university was initially set up as the Kyrgyz-Uzbek University and housed mainly ethnic Uzbek students. The management had attempted to empower Uzbek youth, but were not conscious of the fact that they were isolating the majority of students.

Administrators proposed renaming another state-run Kyrgyz-Uzbek university in Osh the Central Asian University in Kyrgyzstan just after the referendum on June 28. They stated that the new name would indicate a move to work towards reconciliation and that many students there were from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

The return of people who fled during the violence and the peaceful atmosphere during the referendum on June 27 gives one hope for the nation’s stability in the future. International observers have praised the interim government’s ability to conduct a transparent referendum and the fact that it continued without further incidents given the recent violence. President Roza Otunbayeva said during an interview that she does not want to call those who fled during the violence “refugees,” but rather would like to call on “our kin” to return.

The ethnic diversity of a nation should be accepted as its soft power, as through its minority citizens bridges of friendship could be easily built with the nations with which those citizens have cultural ties. I believe the new parliamentary system will bear positive results, unless it is manipulated, as had traditionally been the case in the “Kurultay” (People’s Assembly) and the “Kengesh” (Consultation with the People). The new government should think of adopting a well-planned inclusion policy to focus on ethnic minorities and marginalized groups and that will eliminate pigeonholing of the “Other.”

This article was published in Today’s Zaman Newspaper on 13 June 2010, Sunday

http://www.todayszaman.com/tz-web/news-212959-turkish-smes-more-active-in-global-trade-with-tuskon-at-work.html

“Inclusion” has become a buzzword recently in economic, political, social and educational policy studies. Though it sounds easy, bringing a mechanism that produces concrete results is very difficult. Until today inclusion and exclusion policy analyses generally focused on marginalized groups, communities and individuals through programs that enabled their participation in societal institutions, but is it possible to extend this field of research to include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in order to be competitive and stable in the current monopolistic-oriented economies? The present ultra-competitive market environment eliminates or reduces the number of SMEs through price campaigns, takeovers, diversification of product range, etc. — strategies that are pursued by conglomerates. The financial crisis that hit the world economy also hurt SMEs through the credit and cash crunch, low sales and the floating currency rates; survival became vital in the deteriorating economic crisis, which could be observed through banners that read “to let/to lease” hanging on promises in many business hubs.No one acknowledges monopolization. The core of capitalism drives industrialists towards it, considering competitors enemies, seeing “somebody’s loss is my gain.” But we also know from economics the cooperative game theory, which advocates that achievements can be attained through collaboration where all participants can profit. During the Ottoman Empire businessmen were concerned about their competitors, too. If one of them was doing good business he would close his shop in the middle of the day so that his competitor could do business the rest of the day. It was a common phenomenon but difficult to imagine in our time.

Turkey as an emerging export-oriented economy, with its existing polices to support SMEs and enhance international relations, and the Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON), a confederation with a strong base in Turkey and abroad equipping businesspeople with entrepreneurial faculties, is the best model for inclusiveness in this direction.

TUSKON and its services

TUSKON is a rare case where its launch started from the bottom up. Businessmen in districts of Turkey who felt the need for an alliance that serves their needs, brings integrity and also supports local development, started to set up business associations. After increasing to a decent size, these business associations came under regional federations. And in the year 2005 these federations set up one confederation that brought all them under one roof. Its seven regional federations, 151 business associations and 14,844 members make TUSKON the largest confederation in Turkey today.

TUSKON defines its core objectives as follows: supporting members to engage in an international business environment, discovering new business opportunities, advising policy makers on new economic approaches, addressing the needs of entrepreneurs to concerned government institutions and sharing international and local experience among members. In addition, it also offers services through its member business associations with beneficial corporate guidance such as workshops on ethnical business conduct, various language and training courses, match-making on the global and local level, the implementation of new business practices, business trips abroad and channeling beneficial government schemes. And most important the confederation with its associates encourages individuals to establish new ventures and partnerships and facilitates the expansion of SMEs.

TUSKON envisions corporate social responsibility as its main focus. Many of its members are engaged in establishing schools, distributing supplies and aid to people in need and providing scholarships to needy students not only in Turkey but in more than 100 countries abroad through involvement with educational endowment trusts and charities.

Sister organizations in more than 135 countries

In addition to its strong membership portfolio in Turkey, TUSKON also has sister organizations in 135 countries around the world. These institutions were set up by Turkish entrepreneurs and volunteers to serve trade and exchange purposes and engage members in the international business environment. The Indo-Turkish Business Association, Thai-Turkish Business Association, South Africa Turkish Business Association and the Turkish and Cameroon Business Association are just some of the business associations that are part of the TUSKON family.

Trips abroad are significant endeavors and given much importance; these study tours expand the horizons of entrepreneurs and are the best illustration of “out of the box/country thinking.” Those who participate in these trips acquaint themselves with international standards, opportunities abroad, new ideas, potential buyers and suppliers, knowledge on working and production methods and much more.

International trade bridges

Each year TUSKON organizes a number of international business conventions, inviting thousands of businessmen from abroad for matching up with Turkish entrepreneurs. Last June’s Turkey-World Trade Bridge 2009 brought 2,250 businessmen, trade ministers, bureaucrats and media personnel from 135 countries and was also attended by 3,000 Turkish businessmen. The event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During the summit, 120,000 business meetings took place, making the event what organizers believe to be the world’s largest-ever business convention. Organizers hoped that it would result in $7 billion in new business.

TUSKON is pleased to host the 2nd Turkey-World Trade Bridge, which will take place all this week. TUSKON President Rızanur Meral, in an interview with STV, announced that for this year’s event 2,200 businessmen from 135 countries and 1,200 Turkish businessmen are registered to attend, noting that TUSKON was pleasantly surprised by the large demand for places at the conference. The event is supported by a number of government agencies, and companies, including the Prime Ministry’s Undersecretariat for Foreign Trade, the Foreign Ministry, the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), Turkish Airlines (THY), Bank Asya, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and the Istanbul Expo Center.

Lately we had a group discussion on the same topic; the question was not if the robots are going to dominate human being but if there’s a possibility. The technology is developing fast, years back Yahoo and Google used to give limited storage for emails, but now it’s unlimited, there’s no problem of memory space; present technology allows storing data even in cells and atomic level, you can think about enormous information storage capacity. The internet has entered almost all the doors, and virtual world expanding day by day, entire human related matters are available there; like your birthday party photos and you can trace who have come and who not. Entire documentation is done on computers, making all data to be obtainable in soft copies. The mobile communication devices make you to be reachable any time anywhere. And especially new progresses in Artificial Intelligence, making computers to chose better option, to develop superior decision making ability, having the opportunity to use ready knowledge and most important the facility to mine the required data from entire Virtual World, where everything is available about human race. I believe this evolution one day can click in this AI’s mind to take steps that are going to harm people. These were the points that I placed forward getting their agreement towards that there’s a risk. In this regard I asked how it could be defeated, one of the attendant said that we are going to fight with robots and win, but I should bring the attention that at that level we will be not seeing the opponent as a robot but a virtual creature which could exist wherever, each electronic devise which will be connected with electronic signal will be under its command. I believe it could be achieved by two way one is neutralization which is two create two same AIs that they are going to destroy each other and second humanization.

Recently the movie with name “Eagle Eye” has been released by Hollywood. It’s about AI software that is developed by Pentagon, whose prime and only aim is to assist the national security. And this software was capable of entering to any computer, trace any information in general where the electronic device was there it was there. It was fine until it has come to conclusion that national security would better achieved by killing and replacing the President of USA. And to attain this objective there wouldn’t be any discussion, how many people may die or what could be the cost. But to take this sharp decision software needed permission, by which entire film scenario took place. It could see from any public or private cameras that are connected to wire. And it was able to send information to any monitor, and lock or open any electronic door, and even change and send another image to surveillance x-ray monitor in airport security. And it could develop highly sophisticated technology by itself that even the latest technology reached by human would be alien; where this software could make out the speech of people by vibration of water in tea coup. The film ended by this system being damaged by group who identifies the trick that it used to play. AI tried to send all data in the system to another location but fails to do so and end of it comes, but I should admit that if this software could exist it wouldn’t be so unintelligent not to understand the need of data backup.

I have asked from my old informatics professor about the technologies that could be developed, may be already existing; will it be possible to mine the data from the computer that is switched off, mostly when we shutdown the computers we do not unplug the cables it remains there, it means there’s an electronic signal in the motherboard though the devices are not working; and with advanced technology why not to be able to extract all information from the hard disc. It could be not a big deal, because I read news years back that scientist are working in the field to avail internet through electronic wires. Let’s go further will it be possible to trace the data if there’s no electricity in the cable, why not, think about sending the radio signal through wire, to the motherboard, from there to hard disc, and by getting the visual feedback the original format of information could be shaped. What about if the computer is not plugged to any wire at all, think about the case of laptop, is it possible to derive information from there. Hmm, it’s too possible; take into consideration of mobile phones that we carry all the time with us, wherever we get call the monitor and speaker starts to vibrate, it means that cellular phones have high radio signals, and it could also pass through hard disc, and all information could be sent and transformed to original form. If these are possible then there is no way that we can hide information but we will be forced to encrypt data with advanced encryption, because human related information is very sensitive.

These new creatures with advanced skills, virtual form, complex understanding, boundless knowledge and superior learning ability may be reality one day but it will be restricted with human related feelings, Love, hatred, compassion, eternity etc. But how it will be possible to defeat this inhuman enemy and bring it into command of human being; how about transplantation of Heart to this beings! In the latest movie of “Terminator Salvation” a robot was created with human heart, it will not release that it’s robot unless it will see that his body is metallic. He will be told that he was created to destroy the human race, but takes a decision to be with human and fights against robots. If it’s possible will this human or robot, or both, will be responsible for its action, will it be judged according to divine law, and will spirit of heart brought in hereafter. Very complex to think, but same time more questions arises; is the spirit separate from body, if spirit is connected, is it connected through mind, brain or heart. I used to think about this question for many years, but more or less have come to conclusion that it should be through Heart only.

Human is able to think one thing and other thinking capacity is psychological reflection, same thing for computers; CPU too does one task, but it appears for us that it’s multitasking because it’s able to process multiple jobs at same time it means processor is performing series of operations this executions could be from separate tasks. Human takes assistance from task performers, example we get help from MS Word to type and get printed that easies our job, during my typing this sentence computer having series of operations, I don’t have to think all about that. We delegate tasks to Artificial Intelligence like Expert Systems, same time AIs also can take help from other AIs to make its job easier. In MATRIX film, the AI that became threat to human employees “Agents” which are actually another AI software, and there are Keymaker, Oracle and many more, but one of this AI becomes threat to mother AI. During this time Matrix takes help from Neo, to destroy this software for which Matrix is going to offer Peace to original living people. Neo is a human, which has a Heart that makes him distinguish, the characteristics and cognition that is beyond the perception of AI.

In famous movie “Artificial Intelligence” by Steven Spielberg, a mecha boy David was depicted with an ability to Love. In this film a mother who losses her child adopts a robot boy, but it was not an ordinary, was with feeling to love and same time gains the mother’s love too. Boy with astonishing ability of Love despite all obstacles nothing prevents him to Love, and this Love could continue till eternity. The quality of human being to forget is one of the amazing gift that is given by God, if we could remember everything our life could be nightmare. But every action, every word is written in divine book, which we will be countable one day, for every atomic good deed and bad deed. In head traumas we may forget entire past, which means though the feelings that human inherit is not applicable with biochemical reactions in brain but something to do with mind. So this mecha boy could have human heart but brain of simple software that to forget bad experiences, which could make his feelings unconditional. In our days the new technology is enabling heart transplantation with artificial heart, or a heart which is made up of plastic, but performing same functionality.

But what about the heart to be placed not in the robot but into the system, entire decision making proceeding will be hanged over by this heart and depend for his pure judgment. In one of Prophetic (pbuh) tradition, he said “There is a fleshy part in the body. If it is healthy, then the whole of the body is healthy. If it is corrupted, then all the body is corrupted. Beware! That part is heart”. This system without human organs expect heart, will it have human desires, and this system which is capable of seeing from each camera and touch from each electronic device, will it be in examination with his carnal desire, will it be judged with divine law in Hereafter, or all what is written in this article is only fantasies without actuality.
